Component Notes and Information
NOTE:
^ During service procedures, refer to the illustration above and the information below
^ After servicing calipers, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
^ To remove brake fluid from the reservoir use a bleeder bottle which is used only for brake fluid
WARNING: Brake fluid is poisonous.
1 Hex bolt
- Tighten to: 280 Nm (207 ft lb)
2 Brake pad support
3 Brake pads
- Always replace on both sides
- Pad thickness when new: 13.5 mm
- Checking thickness refer to Repair Manual, Maintenance
- Wear limit: 2 mm, not including backing plate (remaining pad material thickness)
- Removing and installing refer to Replacement. Service and Repair
4 Protective cap
5 Guide pin
6 Self locking bolt
- Tighten to: 35 Nm (26 ft lb)
- Always replace
7 Brake caliper
- Servicing refer to Overhaul
- Distinguishing features. Application and ID
8 Hex socket head bolt
- Tighten to: 10 Nm (7 ft lb)
9 Brake rotor
- When worn always replace on both sides
- To remove, remove brake caliper
- Non-ventilated brake rotor diameter: 282 mm
- Brake rotor thickness: 18 mm
- Wear limit: 15 mm
10 Hex bolt
- Tighten to: 8 Nm (70 inch lb)
11 Splash plate
12 Brake line with union connection
13 Hex bolt
- Tighten to: 10 Nm (7 ft lb)
14 Bracket
15 Brake hose
Removal
- Remove wheels.
- Remove lower brake caliper housing securing bolt. Counter hold guide pin when loosening.
- Swing brake caliper housing upward.
- Remove brake pads.
Installation
WARNING: Brake fluid is poisonous.
NOTE:
^ Before installing new brake pads, press the caliper piston back into the cylinder with a resetting tool.
^ Before pressing the piston back, remove brake fluid from the reservoir with a bleeder bottle.
^ Otherwise, if the reservoir has been topped up, fluid will overflow and cause damage.
- Press piston back.
- Install brake pads.
- Swing brake caliper housing down and tighten securing bolts to specified tightening torque.
NOTE:
^ The repair kit contains two self-locking hex bolts which must be installed.
^ After replacing the brake pads, depress the brake pedal firmly several times with the vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
