Instrument Panel 09.98 -->, Removing And Installing
WARNING: Before working on any part of the electrical system, obtain radio security code and disconnect battery ground (GND) strap
NOTE:
- After connecting the battery, make sure that all vehicle equipment (e.g., radio, clock, power windows) have been checked according to the Repair Manual and/or Owner's Manual.
- The wiring harness is fastened to the instrument panel with clips. If the instrument panel is removed, the wiring harness remains in the vehicle.
- Remove hex bolt - 1 - from air duct and cross panel.
Steering Wheel With Airbag, Removing
- Steering wheel with airbag, removing.
Steering wheel without airbag, removing
- Unclip horn pad - 1 -.
- Remove hex nut - 2 -.
- When installing, tighten to 70 Nm (52 ft lb).
- Place steering wheel - 3 - in center position (wheels straight ahead).
- Remove steering wheel - 3 -.
Steering column switch and trim, removing
- Remove screws - 6 - and loosen lower trim - 4 - from clips.
- Disconnect connector - 5 - from lower trim - 4 -.
- Remove upper trim - 3 -.
- Disconnect connectors from switch - 2 -.
- Remove screws - 1 - and switch - 2 -.
Instrument panel trim, removing
- Remove screws - 1 -.
- Release trim - 2 - from clips - 3 -.
- Remove left and right mounting screws - 1 -.
- Bring trim forward.
- Disconnect connector from back of trim.
- Remove trim.
Heat/fresh air vent (left and right), removing
- Push bent wire on left side of vent - 2 -.
- Remove vent - 2 - from air outlet - 3 -.
- Remove screw - 1 -.
- Press tabs (arrows) and remove air outlet - 3 -.
Light switch panel, removing
- Carefully insert small object (e.g., feeler gauge max 0.9 mm ) above instrument illumination adjuster (arrow) into joint between light switch and fresh air duct.
- Press locks to the right (arrows) and remove switch from instrument panel by pulling forward on knob.
- Disconnect connectors.
Heat/fresh air vent (center), removing
- Remove left and right center duct inserts by guiding a bent wire on left side of insert and pull insert out.
- Remove screws (arrows).
Instrument panel switches (center) trim, removing
- Pull ashtray from instrument panel bracket.
- Carefully loosen trim. Start at ashtray cut-out tabs (arrows).
- Remove trim.
- Pull programmable timer - E111 - from instrument panel, if necessary.
- Disconnect connector.
Instrument Panel Switches (center)
1 - Radio
2 - A/C control head - E87 -
- Remove 4 screws
- Pull out A/C control head.
- Disconnect connector.
3 - A/C control panel trim
- Unclip and remove trim.
4 - Heater trim
- Unclip and remove trim.
5 - Rotary knobs
- Pull off knobs to remove.
6 - Rotary knob trim
- Unclip and remove trim.
7 - Control Assembly
Disconnect all connectors from the instrument panel (center) and the cigarette lighter.
Radio, Removing
- Insert radio release tool 3316 into unlocking slots until engaged.
- Remove radio from instrument panel by pulling on tool.
- Disconnect connectors.
NOTE:
- The tool must not be pressed to the side or tipped during use.
- Press the lateral tabs on the tool inward to remove the tool.
Passenger storage tray, removing
- Remove cap - 4 -.
- Remove six screws - 3 -.
- Pull storage tray - 2 - down and at angle to remove.
- Remove passenger's side air bag unit.
Driver storage tray, removing
NOTE: Storage tray is also fuse/relay panel cover.
- Turn knob (arrow) in counterclockwise direction.
- Open storage tray cover and unhook from instrument panel.
- Remove storage tray.
Footwell duct, removing
- Remove screws from trim - 1 - and footwell duct - 2 -.
- Remove trim - 1 - and footwell duct - 2 -.
- Remove A-pillar trim.
- Remove sunlight photosensor - G137 - connector - 6 -, if necessary.
- Remove right and left radio speaker - 3 - connectors, if necessary.
- Remove right and left cap - 4 - and hex combination screw and washer assemblies - 5 -.
- Remove Phillips screws (arrows).
- Remove instrument panel from crossbeam - 1 - and support - 2 -.
- Install in reverse order of removal.
