- Disconnect 3-pin harness connector from Speedometer Vehicle Speed sensor (arrow).
- Switch ignition on.
- Switch Fluke 83 multimeter to 20 Volt DC range.

- Connect multimeter between terminals 1+3 of harness connector using jumper wires from VW 1594 adapter kit.
- specification: 9 to 14.5 Volts
- Switch ignition off.
- Reconnect Vehicle Speed sensor harness connector.

If no voltage present:
- Check wiring using wiring diagram.

If voltage between 9 and 14.5 Volts:

- Connect VAG 1598118 Test Box to ECM wiring harness.
- Switch multimeter to resistance range.
- Check wiring for open circuit between central electric and Test Box socket 65 using wiring diagram:
- wire resistance: 1.5 Ohms maximum
- Connect multimeter between sockets 56 + 65 using jumper wires from VW 1594 adapter kit.
- Switch ignition on.
- Raise and rotate left front wheel or push vehicle to excite sensor.
- Voltage must fluctuate between 0 and 4 Volts minimum

If wiring OK and voltage present between terminals 1 + 3:

- Replace Speedometer Vehicle Speed sensor -G22-.
- Read-out Readiness code. Refer to Monitors, Trip and/or Drive Cycle (Readiness Codes)/Readiness Code Checking. Testing and Inspection

If DTC memory has been erased:
