Oxygen Sensor (Before CAT) Aging, Checking
Special tools and equipment
- VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool using VAG 1551/3 adapter cable
Requirement
- Engine Coolant Temperature 80 °C minimum
Functional check
- Connect VAG 1551 (VAG 1552) Scan.Tool. Refer to Scan Tool Testing/VAG 1551 Scan Tool. Testing and Inspection
- With engine idling, press buttons -0- and -1- to select "Engine electronics" address word 01.

Rapid data transfer HELP
Select function XX
- Press buttons -0- and -4- to select "Basic setting".
- Press -Q- button to enter selection.

Introduce Basic setting HELP
Input display group number XX
- Press buttons -1-, -3- and -0- to select "Display group number 130".
- Press -Q- button to enter selection.
Display will appear as shown (1 to 4 = Display fields)
Basic setting 130 ->

- Raise engine speed to between 2200 and 2800 rpm and check specifications for oxygen sensor aging (before cat).

NOTE:
- To ensure exhaust gas temperature is within spec during test, maintain test rpm for at least 1 minute.
- Observe Oxygen control status in Display field 4.
Display Group 15:
- Press -C- button.
- Press buttons -1-, -3- and -1- to select "Display group number 131" and press -Q- button to confirm entry.
Display will appear as shown (1 to 4 = Display fields)

- Run engine at idle and check specifications:

Continuation
If specification is not obtained:
- Drive vehicle to free-up oxygen sensor build-up and repeat test.
If specification still not obtained:
- Replace Oxygen sensor (before cat) -G139-.
- Read-out Readiness code, Refer to Monitors, Trip and/or Drive Cycle (Readiness Codes)/Readiness Code Checking. Testing and Inspection
If DTC memory has been erased, create Readiness code Refer to Monitors, Trip and/or Drive Cycle (Readiness Codes)/Readiness Code Generating Testing and Inspection
