- Check Throttle Valve Position sensor specification (Display field 3).
- displayed value must increase uniformly over complete range
- Press -> button.
- Press buttons -0- and -6- to select "End output" function 06.
- Press -Q- button to enter selection.
- Switch ignition off.
NOTE: The displayed value is dependent upon the Throttle Position sensor tolerances and does not correspond to the actual throttle opening angle.
The maximum permissible displayed value is 90.0 Angle Degree.
If value does not increase uniformly:
- Replace Throttle Valve Control Module.
- Perform Basic setting.
- Read-out Readiness code. Refer to Monitors, Trip and/or Drive Cycle (Readiness Codes)/Readiness Code Checking Testing and Inspection
If DTC memory has been erased:
- Create Readiness code. Refer to Monitors, Trip and/or Drive Cycle (Readiness Codes)/Readiness Code Generating Testing and Inspection

Wiring, checking
- Connect VAG 1598/18 Test Box to ECM wiring harness.
- Switch Fluke 83 multimeter to resistance range.
- Check wiring for short to Ground by connecting multimeter between Test Box sockets 01 + 40 using jumper wires from VW 1594 adapter kit.
- specification: infinity Ohms
- Switch multimeter to 20 Volt DC range.
- Switch ignition on.
- Check wiring for short to positive, record voltage value if necessary.
- Switch ignition on.
- Disconnect 8-pin Throttle Valve Control Module connector.
Continuation (If voltage present)
If approx. 5 Volts measured:
- Connect multimeter between Test Box sockets 40 + 41 using jumper wires from VW 1594 adapter kit and measure resistance.
- specification: infinity Ohms
If Voltage was approx. equal to battery voltage:
- Check wire for short to battery positive at 8-pin harness connector terminal 5 using wiring diagram.
Continuation (if no voltage present)
- Check wiring for open circuit between Test Box and 8-pin connector using wiring diagram.
terminal 5 + socket 40
- wire resistance: 1.5 Ohms maximum
If wiring OK:
- Replace Throttle Valve Control Module.
- Perform Basic setting.
- Read-out Readiness code, Refer to Monitors, Trip and/or Drive Cycle (Readiness Codes)/Readiness Code Checking Testing and Inspection
If DTC memory has been erased:
- Create Readiness code, Refer to Monitors, Trip and/or Drive Cycle (Readiness Codes)/Readiness Code Generating Testing and Inspection
