Connecting VAS 5051 Scan Tool




VAS 5051 Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing And Information System, Connecting And Selecting Engine Control Module

All functions which could previously be performed with VAG 1551/1552 can also be performed with the tester VAS 5051 in the operating mode vehicle On Board Diagnostic (OBD).

Special tools, test equipment and auxiliary items






- VAS 5051 vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system

Test conditions






- The fuses No. 5, 10, 13, 28, 29, 32, 34 and 43 must be OK
- The battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V
- Ground connection between engine and body must be OK
- All electrical consumers, e.g. lights and rear window heating must be switched off
- If the vehicle is equipped with an air conditioner, this must be switched off
- Selector lever must be in position "P" or "N" on vehicles with an automatic gearbox

Work sequence
- Connect the tester VAS 5051 using diagnostic cable VAS 5051/1 or VAS 5051/3 as follows:






- Push the plug of the diagnostic cable onto the diagnostic connection.
- Depending upon desired function: switch ignition on or start engine, See Table "Selectable functions." Selectable Functions When Using VAG1551/1552 or VAS5051

NOTE:
- In the functions 04 - Basic setting/08 - Read Measuring Value Block, the display zones will be listed from top to bottom.

Select operating mode:

- Press the button on the display for "Vehicle On Board Diagnostic (OBD)" -arrow-.

Select vehicle system:

- Press keys "01 - Engine electronics" on the display -arrow-.

On the display the control module identification and coding are displayed, e.g.:

Select diagnostic function:

At this point all diagnostic functions are available.
- Press the desired function on the display.
