Oil pump chain tensioner, checking and oil pump, removing


Special tools and equipment

- Hand drill with plastic brush
- Silicone sealant D 176 404 A2
- Flat scraper

Removing






- Remove noise insulation (arrows).
- Drain engine oil.






- Remove oil pan lower part (arrows).

Checking chain tensioner






- Insert a screwdriver between chain and chain tensioner and pry carefully against chain tensioner, in direction of arrow.
- If there is no spring tension or drive chain is slack, chain tensioner is malfunctioning and must be replaced.

Note: To replace the chain tensioner, the toothed belt and then the front sealing flange must be removed. Procedures

Removing oil pump






- Remove both brackets (arrows) for oil supply pipe.
- Pull longer oil supply pipe out of oil pan upper part.






- Unbolt chain sprocket from oil pump (arrow) and pull down off oil pump drive shaft.






- Remove oil pump together with shorter oil supply pipe.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order, when doing this note the following:
- Insert shorter oil supply pipe with new O-ring in oil pump, then install oil pump.

Note: The sealing surfaces on the oil pan upper and lower parts must be free of oil and grease.

For oil pans with solid gasket:

- Position a new gasket on oil pan lower part and secure with 4 bolts.
- Tighten all oil pan securing bolts hand tight, then tighten to prescribed torque starting at middle and work outward.

For oil pans with silicon gasket:






- Remove residual sealant from oil pan, if necessary, with a hand drill and plastic brush (wear eye protection) instead of a flat scraper.
- Clean sealing surface free of oil and grease.

Note:
- Note the use by date of the sealant.
- The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes of applying silicone sealing compound.






- Cut-off tube nozzle at forward marking (nozzle approximately 3 mm dia.).
- Apply silicone sealing compound, as shown, to clean oil pan sealing surface. Sealing compound bead must be:
2 - 3 mm thick
and run on inside of bolt holes -arrows-

Note: The sealing compound bead must not be thicker, otherwise excess sealing compound will enter the oil pan and may block the oil suction pipe strainer.






- Apply silicone sealant bead as shown to clean sealing surface of oil pan.
- Install oil pan immediately and tighten all bolts lightly.
- Tighten oil pan bolts to 15 Nm.

Note: After installing oil pan the sealant must be allowed to dry for approximately 30 minutes before engine is filled with oil.

The rest of the assembly is basically a reverse of the disassembly sequence.
