Fuel Tank With Components And Fuel Filter, Removing And Installing




Vehicles with front-wheel drive

1. - Sealing cap
2. - Seal
- Replace if damaged
3. - Tank flap unit
- With rubber cup
4. - Securing screw
5. - Roll-over valve
- To remove valve unclip upward out of support
- Checking: Valve vertical: open; Valve tilted 45°: closed
6. - 0-ring
- Replace if damaged
7. - Vent line
- Black
- Operating vent
- Make sure line is securely seated
- Secure with spring-type clips
8. - Pressure retaining valve
- For fuel tank breathing
- Checking, Fig. 3
9. - Coupling
- Press together at front to release
10. - Change-over valve
- To remove valve unclip out of side support
- Before installing remove sealing cap item 1
- Checking, Fig. 2
11. - Breather line
- Filling vent
- Make sure line is securely seated
- Clipped onto top of fuel tank
- To EVAP canister, item 11, Evaporative Emissions System Components Removing and Installing
12. - Supply line
- Black
- Clipped onto side of fuel tank
- Make sure line is securely seated
- Secure with spring-type clips
13. - Harness connector
- 4-pin black
- For fuel gauge sender -G- and fuel pump -G6-
14. - Union nut, 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.)
- Remove and install using 3217 ring nut spanner
15. - Fuel delivery module
- Note Installation position on fuel tank refer to Fig. 1
- Can only be replaced complete with flange
- Removing and installing, Service and Repair
- Checking fuel pump, Testing and Inspection
- Clean strainer if soiled
16. - Return line
- Blue or blue markings
- Clipped onto side of fuel tank
- Make sure line is securely seated
- Secure with spring-type clips
- From fuel return line on fuel rail, Service and Repair
17. - Fuel gauge sender -G-
- Clipped onto back pressure housing in fuel tank
18. - Sealing ring
- Replace if damaged
- Coat with fuel when installing
19. - Vent line
- Operating vent
- For droplet container (item 29)
20. - 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
21. - Vent line
- Check securely seated
- Clipped onto top of fuel tank
22. - Fuel tank
- Support with VAG 1383A engine/transmission jack when removing
- Removing and installing, Service and Repair
23. - Bracket
- For securing straps
- Note installation position
24. - Securing strap
- Note different length
- Installation position: fixing point (holes) point in direction of travel
25. - Mounting bracket
- Attached to body
26. - 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.)
27. - Fuel filter
- Installation position: arrow points in direction of flow
28. - Supply line
- Black
- Check for secure seating
- Secure with spring-type clips
- To fuel supply line on fuel rail, Service and Repair
29. - Droplet container
30. - Vent line
- For droplet container (item 29)
31. - Connecting hose
32. - Angle piece
33. - Shaped hose
34. - Ground (GND) connection
- Check for secure connection

Mark on fuel pump module -1- must align with mark on fuel tank -2-.

Note: After installing fuel pump module, check that the supply, return and vent lines are still clipped onto the fuel tank.

Valve in rest position: Closed
Valve pushed in direction of arrow: Open

From the vent valve direction, the pressure retaining valve is open in both directions of flow (arrow -1-).
From the junction piece EVAP canister/EVAP canister purge valve direction it is only open in one direction of flow (arrow -2-).
