Support Control Arm, Removing and Installing



Support control arm, removing and installing
Removing
- Remove wheel.





- Remove nut from support control arm ball joint, then press joint pin out of tapered seat.

CAUTION: Take suitable precautions to avoid damaging the joint boot





- Remove bolt -1-.
- Remove ribbed nuts -2- and -3- and remove connecting link.

Note: To prevent the upper control arm ball joints being damaged, support with VAG 1383A or equivalent to prevent spring extending too far

- Remove bolt-4-.
- Remove support control arm.

Installing





- Tighten nut on ball joint to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.).
- Tighten nut -1- to 90 Nm (66 ft. lbs.).
- Tighten nut -2- to 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs.).
- Tighten nut -3- to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.).
- Install new bolt -4- and new nut.
- Tighten to 90 Nm (66 ft. lbs.) + 90°.

Note:
^ Only use inner holes (arrow).
^ Push support control arm inward when tightening.
^ Arrow on connecting link points toward the direction of travel.
