Special tools and equipment

- V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool or vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552 with cable V.A.G 1551/3
- Speed adjuster V.A.G 1788/10

Test sequence

- Connect V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool (V.A.G 1552). Start engine and select engine control module with "Address word" 01.

Select function XX

- Press keys 0 and 4 for function "Introduction of basic setting" and confirm entry with Q key.

Input display group number XXX

- Press keys 0, 4 and 6 for "Display group number 46" and confirm entry with Q key.

System in basic setting 46 ->

- Set engine speed with speed adjuster VAG 1788/10 to 1800-2200 rpm.
- Keep engine at 1800-2200 rpm until display in display zone 4 jumps from "Test OFF" to "Test ON".
- Maintain engine speed further at 1800-2200 rpm until specification "Cat. B1 OK" appears in display zone 4.

Note: The duration of the catalyst diagnosis is about 60 seconds.

If the specifications are not attained:
- Check DTC memory:

If the specification is obtained:
- Maintain engine speed further at 1800-2200 rpm.
- Press key 3 on VAG 1551 or up arrow on VAG 1552.

Indicated on display: (1-4 = Display zones)

System in basic setting 47 ->

- Maintain engine speed at 1800-2200 rpm until display in display zone 4 jumps from "Test OFF" to "Test ON".
- Maintain engine speed further at 1800 - 2200 rpm until specification "Cat B2 OK" is displayed in display zone 4.

Note: The catalyst diagnosis takes approximately 60 seconds.

- Check DTC memory:

If the specification is obtained:
- Remove engine speed adjuster VAG1788/10 from accelerator pedal.
- Press -> key.
