NOTE:
- The Engine Control Module (ECM) is adapted to the electronic controls of the immobilizer in the instrument cluster. For replacement of component, a new adaptation must be performed.
- If there are no authorized ignition keys available, new ignition keys must be prepared and adapted.
- Secret number must be available, if not, see "Determining secret number".
- Adaptation can be interrupted using the C" button of the VAG 1551 scan tool.
Requirements
Authorized key available.
NOTE: If all components are being replaced, a new key set must be used.
- Insert old (authorized) key into ignition lock.

Display indicates control module identification and coding, e.g.:
- 038906018M - Part No. of control module (for current control module version, see parts catalog)
- 1.9 L - Engine displacement
- R4 - Engine type (4-cyl)
- EDC = Injection system identification (Electronic Diesel Control)
- G - cruise control system enabled
No display = cruise control system not enabled
- AG = Automatic Transmission
SG = Manual Transmission
- 1813 = Software version
- Coding xxxxx = Control module coding
- WSC xxxxx = Factory identification from the VAG1551 Scan Tool (ST), with which the last coding was performed (if factory coding has not been changed, WSC 00000 will be displayed)
