Oil pump drive chain and sprocket, removing and installing

Note: In order to remove the drive chain, the ribbed belt, the toothed belt and the sealing flange must be removed.

Special tools and equipment





- Engine support bracket 10-222A with feet 10-222A/1
- VAG 1202 A Workshop crane
- 3202/1 Guide sleeve from 3202
- 30-100 Drift sleeve
- Two arm puller (commercial)
- Hand drill with plastic brush attachment
- Silicon sealant D 1 76 404 A2
- Cable ties

Removing

- Bring lock carrier into service position Lock Carrier And Front Bumper Reinforcement, Moving to Service Position


- Unbolt torque rod on front of oil pan upper part.
- Remove ribbed belt. Service and Repair
- Remove toothed belt. Procedures






- Attach lifting device 10-222A as shown.
- Support engine on front and rear lifting eye with lifting device.






- Mark installation position of threaded connection -1- and lower locating sleeve -2 on left and right engine mountings.
- Disconnect both lower engine mountings.






- Cut through cable ties -arrows-, open retainer for starter wiring and take out wiring.
- Tension engine slightly with spindle of lifting device.






- Remove anti-roll bar nuts -2- on right and left.
- Fold anti-roll bar downward.






- Support subframe with workshop crane 1202 A.

Note: To avoid measuring wheel alignment, the subframe must only be loosened or lowered at the front end.






- Remove front subframe bolts -2- and -3- on left and right-hand sides. Then remove bolts -4-.






- Loosen rear right transmission mounting rear bolt -2- several turns, remove right transmission mounting front bolt -1-.






- Loosen nut for left-hand transmission mounting -arrow- until it aligns with lower edge of bolt (turned approximately 4 threads).






- Lower subframe slowly with workshop crane.
- Remove workshop crane, swing anti-roll bar down.
- Now remove oil pan lower part and oil pump. Oil Pump Chain Tensioner, Checking & Oil Pump, Removing






- Before removing the sealing flange the following components must be removed:
1. Toothed belt tensioning roller
2. Idler roller
3. Toothed belt tensioner
4. Toothed belt tensioning lever
5. Central bolt with toothed belt sprocket






- Now remove front sealing flange (arrows).






- Position a suitable washer -1- under puller spindle -2- to protect crankshaft, and pull chain sprocket off crankshaft.

Installing

Note: Wear protective gloves!

- Heat chain sprocket in an oven for approximately 15 minutes to 220°C.

Note: Chain sprocket installation position: Higher shoulder faces toward engine!






- Position hot chain sprocket on shaft using pliers and slide onto shaft onto stop using press sleeve 30-100. Carefully drive into final position with a plastic head hammer if necessary.
- Place drive chain onto oil pump.






- Position gasket on oil and grease free sealing flange -A- and place a small bead of sealant in corners (arrows).






- Apply an approximately 2 - 3 mm bead of sealant onto clean sealing flange as illustrated.
- Use sleeve 3202/1 to slide sealing flange onto crankshaft.
