Connecting VAS 5051 Scan Tool




VAS5051 Tester, Connecting And Selecting Control Module For Engine Electronics

All functions previously performed with the V.A.G1551/1552 can also be performed using the new VAS5051 tester via operating mode vehicle self-diagnosis:

Special tools and equipment







- VAS 5051 tester

Test requirements







- Fuses no. 28, 29, 30, 32 and 34 must be OK. For vehicles with Front Wheel Drive, also fuse 31.
- Battery voltage must be at least 11.5 volts.
- Ground (GND) connections between engine and chassis must be OK.

Procedure
- Connect VAS5051 tester using VAS5051/1 or VAS5051/3 diagnostic cable as follows:







- Connect diagnostic cable connector to Data Link Connector (DLC).
- Depending on desired function:
switch ignition on
or
start engine, See table "Selectable functions". Selectable Functions When Using VAG1551/1552 or VAS5051


NOTE:
- Display fields are listed from top to bottom in functions 04 - basic setting and 08 - read measuring value block.
- If the displays indicated in the work procedure are not indicated on display:







Indicated on display

Select operating mode:
- Press button for "Vehicle Self-Diagnosis" on the display (arrow).







Indicated on display

Select vehicle system:
- Press "01 - Engine Electronics" on display (arrow).







Display will indicate the control module identification and the coding, e.g.:

If coding differs from vehicle version:
- Check control module coding, Code Engine Control Module Programming Control Module (ECM) -J248-, (Function 07)

Select diagnostic function:
At this point, all diagnostic functions are available.
- Select desired function on display.
