Fig. 16 - Throttle Position(TP) sensor -G69- or throttle position (TP) sensor -G79-

^ The automatic transmission control module (TOM) -J217- requires a "throttle valve or accelerator position signal" for the speed required by the driver.
^ This signal is sent from the relevant potentiometer that normally belongs to the engine management system.
^ The signal is transmitted on vehicles without data bus via wiring. On vehicles with data bus, the signal comes from the data bus.
^ The signal can only be read-out in measured value block.
^ Refer to: 4 Spd. Automatic Transmission 01P On Board Diagnostic (OBD), Performing On Board Diagnostic (OBD); Read Measuring Value Block

^ Locations: The potentiometer is part of the throttle valve control module -J338-. It is located on the throttle valve housing/intake manifold.

^ The throttle position (TP) sensor -G79- -arrow- is part of the electronic power control (EPC) and is located on the pedal.

For On Board Diagnostic (OBD):
^ The signal can only be read in the measured value block. The wire (on vehicles without data bus) is checked during the electrical check.
^ If the throttle valve potentiometer or throttle position (TP) sensor are displayed as faulty, in addition the engine control module On Board Diagnostic (OBD) must always be performed.
^ The automatic transmission control module (TCM) -J217- must be brought to its basic setting after any of the following has been carried out:
^ Replacing of throttle valve control module,
^ Adjustment or replacement of throttle position (TP) sensor -G69-,
^ Replacing of throttle position (TP) sensor -G79-,
^ Open circuit in power supply.

^ Location: The cruise control switch is located on the left-hand steering column switch.

Fig. 19 - Kick down switch -F8- on vehicles with accelerator cable
^ Location: Kick down switch (arrow) is integrated into accelerator cable and is located on bulkhead in engine compartment.

For On Board Diagnostic (OBD):
^ The kick down switch signal is transmitted from the engine control module to the automatic transmission control module.

^ Removing and installing kick down switch
^ First remove the accelerator cable. Remove and install the kick down switch. Then reinstall cable and adjust.

Note: The point at which the kick down switch operates must be clearly noticeable before the full throttle limit stop is reached.

Fig. 20 - Kick down switch -F8- for vehicles with EPC
^ Location: The kick down switch is integrated into accelerator pedal position sender (arrow), which is located near the accelerator pedal.

For On Board Diagnostic (OBD):
^ On vehicles without Data bus the signal is received via a wire from the engine control module.
^ On vehicles with data bus, the automatic transmission control module receives the kick-down signal from the data bus.
