Combination Switch: Service and Repair

Steering Column Switch/ Combination Switch/ Turn Signal Switch


Caution!
Before beginning repairs on the electrical system:
- Obtain the Anti-theft radio security code.
- Switch off all electrical consumers.
- Switch ignition off and remove ignition key.
- Disconnect negative (-) battery terminal.
- When disconnecting and reconnecting battery terminals, observe all applicable Notes and torque specifications, as well as instructions on performing OBD programs and electrical system function checks as specified.

Caution!
Observe special safety precautions that apply to vehicles equipped with airbags.

Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Torque Wrench 5-50Nm -V.A.G 1331- (or equivalent 5-50Nm)

Removing

- Disconnect battery. Service and Repair

- Remove driver's airbag and steering wheel. Service and Repair and Service and Repair

- Remove airbag spiral spring/ return spring with slip ring. Service and Repair

Caution!
Heed special procedure for spiral spring and steering angle sensor etc. removal on vehicles equipped with ESP

- Seperate the multi-pin connectors of the steering column switch.






- Loosen clamping bolt for steering column switch and remove steering column switch.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following.

- Install the airbag spiral spring/ return spring with slip ring.

- Install steering wheel and driver airbag.

- Reconnect battery.
