Glove Box, Eliminating Squeaks/Rattles
Glove box door squeaks when opening and closing. Glove box rattles when closed while driving.

Service
Glove box door, squeaking
^ Release cover -1- with clips -2- from dash panel -3-.
^ Pull out cover -1- in direction of -arrow-.
^ Open glove box door until door damper (brake element) actuator rod for door -arrow is fully extended.
^ Lightly apply silicone spray to brake element actuator rod -arrow-.
^ Open and close glove box door 5 to 6 times and ensure noise or squeak has been eliminated during glove box door operation.
If noise still exists during opening or closing:
^ Replace door damper (brake element).
^ Reinstall cover.
Glove box, rattles when closed while driving
^ Remove rubber insert at bottom of glove box.
^ Cut eight pieces of 1mm thick adhesive felt strips Part No: 533867910A approx. 50mm long.
^ Apply a double layer (2mm thick) of adhesive felt to glove box at three locations as shown -arrows- (Apply felt lengthwise approx. 5mm from edge of door).
^ Apply a double layer (2mm thick) of adhesive felt at rear of glove box where rear of rubber insert contacts glove box -angled arrow-.
^ Reinstall rubber insert.
^ Cut two pieces of (3mm thick) adhesive felt Part No: 533863288A approx. 3mm x 15mm.
^ Locate two rubber stops (approx. location, see item -3- on illustration 70-A092).
^ Gently peel back top edge of rubber stops as shown (be careful not to tear stop attachment).
^ Place 3mm x 15mm adhesive felt strips on glove box at both locations.
^ Reinstall rubber stops.
^ Check that rattles have been eliminated.
If glove box still rattles:
^ Remove glove box fasteners -arrows-.
^ Also remove fastener -1- under instrument panel cover see illustration N70-A089.
^ To access fastener -2-, center console must be removed, see Repair Manual Body Interior, Interior equipment, Repair Group 68.
Console, removing on vehicles with automatic transmission
^ For vehicles with automatic transmission bracket -1- must be unclipped at one side (to allow console to slide over shifter housing).
^ To unclip, press tab at -A- gently then pull bracket in direction of -arrow--
^ Remove glove box.
^ Add 1 piece of (3mm thick) adhesive felt strip Part No: 533 863 288A between metal bracket and plastic of glove box at -arrows- as shown.
^ Reinstall glove box and console.
