Cylinder Block, Crankshaft and Flywheel/Drive Plate, Disassembling and Assembling

Cylinder block, crankshaft and flywheel/drive plate, disassembling and assembling

1 - Crankshaft
^ Axial play new: 0.07 to 0.23 mm;
- Wear limit: 0.25 mm
^ Measure radial play with Plastigage
- New: 0.018 to 0.045 mm; Wear limit: 0.10 mm
^ Do not turn crankshaft when measuring radial play
^ For vehicles with automatic transmission with bushing for torque converter

2 - Bearing cap
^ Installed location
^ Bearing cap 4 with notches for thrust washers

3 - 60 Nm plus 1/4 turn (90°)
^ Replace
^ Tighten to 60 Nm to measure radial play, do not turn further

4 - Thrust washer
^ For bearing cap 4
^ Observe locating point

5 - Flywheel/drive plate

6 - Bolt
^ For flywheel: 60 Nm plus 1/2 turn (180°)
^ For drive plate: 60 Nm plus 1/4 turn (90°)
^ Replace
^ To loosen and tighten, secure using crankshaft holder 3242

7 - Bearing shell
^ Do not interchange used bearings (mark)

8 - Sealing flange with oil seal
^ Only replace as complete unit
^ Replacement sealing flange with PTFE seal (without spring)
- Crankshaft hubs must be free of oil and grease
- Do not oil or grease sealing lip of PTFE seal
- Install seal dry with included sleeve only

9 - Gasket
^ Replace

10 - 10 Nm

11 - Thrust washer
^ For cylinder block, bearing 4

12 - 25 Nm
^ Before tightening bearing cap bolts, tighten hand-tight

13 - Cylinder block

14 - Guide sleeve
^ Ensure seated tightly
^ Replace if damaged

Installed position of bearing caps
^ Bearing cap 1 - belt pulley side
^ Bearing cap 4 - flywheel side

Removing and installing needle bearing
- Remove needle bearing with commercially available puller - A -, e.g. KUKKO 21/2 or KUKKO 22-1.
- Drive in needle bearing using bearing driver 3264.

Bushing for torque converter

Note: Partial and replacement engines, and new or replacement crankshafts are delivered without the bushing. Therefore, before installing the drive plate, the bushing must be driven in.

Secure crankshaft using crankshaft holder 3242
- Remove sealing plug from left side of cylinder block.
- Turn crankshaft to TDC for cylinder 3. TDC mark on crankshaft must be visible or felt behind bore for sealing plug.
- Screw crankshaft holder 3242 into hole so that crankshaft is prevented from turning.
