Oil Pump/Front Sealing Flange, Drive Chain and Chain Sprocket For Oil Pump, Removing and Installing

Oil pump/front sealing flange, drive chain and chain sprocket for oil pump, removing and installing
On engines that have an oil pump without chain drive, the oil pump is integrated into the front sealing flange.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

^ Press tube 30-100

^ Torque wrench V.A.G 1331
^ Two-arm puller (commercially available)

Removing

Note: To be able to remove the drive chain and the chain sprocket, the front sealing flange must be removed.

- Remove toothed belt.

- Remove following components:

1 - Toothed belt tensioning roller
2 - Idler roller
3 - Tensioning element
4 - Tension lever for tensioner
5 - Central bolt with toothed belt gear on crankshaft

Engines with oil pump without chain drive
- Remove spray jet valve.
- Disconnect connector from Engine oil temperature sensor -G8-.

Continued for all engines
- Remove upper part of oil pan.

- Remove bolts - arrows -.
- The illustration shows the oil pump and the front sealing flange with upper part of the oil pan still installed.
- Pull off oil pump and front sealing flange.

Engines with oil pump with chain drive

- Mark running direction of chain and remove it.
- To protect crankshaft, insert an appropriately sized washer - 1 - under threaded spindle of two-armed puller - 2 -.
- Pull off chain sprocket from crankshaft.

Continued for all engines
- Drive out sealing ring with oil pump and front sealing flange removed.
- Clean sealing surfaces of cylinder block, oil pump and front sealing flange. Sealing surfaces must be free of oil and grease.

Installing

Note: Always replace gaskets and seals.

Engines with oil pump with chain drive
- Heat up chain sprocket for approx. 15 minutes in an oven at 220°C.

CAUTION! Wear protective gloves!

- Using pliers, place heated chain sprocket onto end of crankshaft.
- Installation position of chain sprocket: Higher collar points to engine!
- Slide chain sprocket onto crankshaft up to limit stop using press tube 30-100. If necessary, carefully strike using plastic mallet.
- Put on drive chain for oil pump.
- Place gasket onto alignment pins.

Engines with oil pump without chain drive
- Place gasket onto alignment pins.
- Position oil pump so that coupling engages on crankshaft.

Continued for all engines
- Set sealing flange in place and lightly fasten bolts.
- Fasten sealing flange bolts in a diagonal sequence to 10 Nm.
- Install a new sealing ring.

Further assembly is performed in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:
^ Tightening torque for fastening oil pump and front sealing flange.
