Removal and Replacement
Steering Column Switch/ Combination Switch/ Turn Signal Switch
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Torque Wrench -V.A.G 1332- (40-200Nm).
NOTE:
- The following components are intergrated in the steering column switch. Turn Signal Switch -E2-, Headlamp Dimmer/ Flasher Switch -E4-, Parking Lamp Switch -E19-, Windshield Wiper Intermittent Regulator -E38-, Windshield Wiper/ Washer Switch -E22-, Multi-Function Indicator Mode Select Switch -E86- and Multi-Function Indicator Memory Switch -E109-.
- If vehicle is equipped with Cruise Control System (CCS), Cruise Control Switch -E45- and Cruise Control -SET- Button -E227- are integrated in steering column switch.
Removing:
NOTE:
- Before disconnecting battery, retrieve code from radios with anti-theft coding.
- When disconnecting and connecting battery, the procedure as described in the repair manual must be followed.
- Disconnect battery. Service and Repair
- Remove steering wheel. Service and Repair
- Remove the two bolts -arrows-.
- Remove upper steering column switch trim -1-.
- Remove the screws -arrows-.
- Remove the hex socket head bolt -1-.
- Loosen steering wheel height adjuster -2-.
- Remove the lower steering column switch trim -3-.
- Loosen the hex socket head bolt -1-.
- Seperate the connectors -arrows- from the steering column switch.
Caution!
Airbag Spiral Spring/ Return Spring With Slip Ring -F138- remain on steering column switch. Make sure Airbag Spiral Spring/ Return Spring With Slip Ring -F138- are not twisted out of center position.
- Remove the steering column switch.
Installing:
- Only attach steering column switch -2- on steering column, do not fasten yet.
- Attach steering wheel.
- Secure steering column switch -2- to steering column using socket head screw -3-, maintaining a gap dimensions to steering wheel -1- of -a- = 3mm.
- Remove steering wheel once more and continue with rest of installation.
