Section B - Fuel Line Bracket Removal and Fuel Line Inspection
(2001-2005 1.8T Vehicles)- Open hood
- Remove plastic fuel line retainer -arrow- to relieve fuel line tension
- Remove fuel lines from plastic holder -circle-.
- Remove bolts -arrows- for fuel line bracket
- Remove fuel line bracket from engine
- Unclip plastic holder from metal bracket (retain metal bracket tool and bolts)
NOTE:
Metal bracket tool and bolts must be retained for future use
- Unclip bracket latch holding fuel lines by pushing bracket up from underneath to unclip, then pull bracket outward to allow fuel lines to move freely
- Remove plastic cover over air filter housing
- Unclip bracket holding fuel lines near air filter housing -arrow- by pushing down on bracket to unclip, then pull bracket outward to allow fuel lines to move freely
- Check center fuel line -arrow- for signs of cracking or fuel leaks
- If fuel line shows visible leaks or cracks, proceed to Section D
- If no cracking or fuel leaks are found, close brackets and continue
- Inspect center fuel line to ensure flare joint is positioned to the right and outside of bracket
- If flare joint is visible outside of bracket approximately 1mm to the right, work is complete
- If flare joint is not visible outside of bracket approximately 1mm to the right, proceed to Section C
