Fuel System - Rattle From Front Passenger Floor Area

2011772 Supersedes T.B. Group 20 number 06-04 dated Oct. 20, 2006 due to additional vehicle line with VIN range.





Affected Vehicles

Condition

Fuel Lines, Rattle

Fuel line resonance (pulse) perceived as rattling noise from passenger side floor or dash area.

Technical Background

Fuel line resonance causing rattle under passenger side floor/dash area.

Production Solution

Added fuel line length as of VIN: 1K_7M047631 (Jetta) or 1K_7W086377 (Rabbit / new GTI).

Added fuel line length as of VIN: 1F_7V026988 (Eos).

Service

Check and install fuel line insulators, Part No. 06A141730A where indicated:

^ Raise and support the vehicle.





^ Remove right side under body cover.





^ Locate black fuel line inside frame channel.

Tip:

Final position of insulators should be located inside fram channel where indicated (white arrows).

Installing Rear Insulator

^ Remove foam insulating block at rear of frame channel.

^ Slice insulator Part No. 06A141730A lengthwise on one side to enable installation onto fuel line.





^ Install insulator, as shown.

^ Apply tape or small tie-rap around insulator on line.

Tip:

Do Not apply tape or tie-rap tightly, the insulator must be able to slide on fuel line.

A soap /water mixture may be applied to the line to ease insulator installation.

^ Move insulator into frame channel so that it is positioned half way between rear of channel and oval access hole as illustrated in picture 20A203.

Installing Front Insulator





^ Install insulator Part No. 06A141730A around the black fuel line through the oval access hole in the frame channel.

^ Move the insulator forward into frame channel and position as illustrated in picture 20-A203.

Tip:

Move insulator carefully so that it does not slide off of fuel line inside frame channel.





^ Reinstall the foam insulating block at the rear of the frame channel.

^ Install right side under body cover. Tighten fasteners to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.).

^ Verify noise is eliminated.
