Front Seat Backrest Cover and Cushion
• Removal and installation of the components are described for the left seat. The same procedure applies for the removal and installation of the components of the right seat.
Removal
- Mount the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136) on the engine and transmission holder (VAS 6095).
- Remove front seat. Refer to => [ Front Seat ] Front Seats
- Attach the seat to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).
- Remove front right seat trim. Refer to => [ Right Seat Trim ] Front Seats
Vehicles with manual seat adjustment
- Remove front left seat trim. Refer to => [ Left Seat Trim ] Front Seats
Vehicles with electric seat adjustment
- Remove left power seat trim. Refer to => [ Left Power Seat Trim ] Front Seats
All vehicles
- Remove front seat backrest. Refer to => [ Left Front Seat Backrest ] Front Seats
- Attach the backrest to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).
- Press corresponding button in headrest guide and pull headrest - 1 - out of backrest.
2-door only
- Remove operating knob - 2 -.
- Position a screwdriver in - direction of arrow - and pry trim - 3 - out of mount.
• When installing, securing spring - 4 - must be removed from lever - 5 - and replaced.
Only vehicle (Rabbit from MY 2004) with manual lumbar support adjustment
- Remove the lumbar support adjusting wheel - 6 - using the Pliers (3392).
All vehicles
- Disengage backrest profile - 7 - on both sides.
- Release profile - 8 - from mount - 9 -.
- Loosen side profile - 1 - and - 2 - from mounts and fold back side of cover upward.
- Remove plate - 3 - from backrest.
- Open side profile - 4 - and disengage tension wire - 5 -.
- Open side profile - 7 - and disengage tension wire - 6 -.
- Fold cover - 5 - upward.
- Using a small screwdriver, unclip profiles - 1 - for cover out of mounts - 2 - in upholstery.
- Disengage tension wire - 4 - on both sides from upholstery wire - 3 -.
- Remove headrest guides. Refer to => [ Headrest Guides ] Front Seats
- Remove the cover - 5 - and upholstery - 6 - from the seat frame - 7 -.
Installation
- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.
2-door only
To prevent damage to the cover when folding the front seat backrests, ensure tensioning bands are positioned correctly.
• 1 - long tensioning band, tunnel side
• 2 - short tensioning band, tunnel side
• 3 - long tensioning band, sill side
• 4 - short tensioning band, sill side
The long tunnel side tensioning band should be guided between upholstery and seat structure side panel, then clipped into side panel from the inside - arrow -.
The short tunnel side tensioning band - 1 - should be guided between the upholstery and side panel and clipped under seat sideways into seat pan - arrow -.
The long sill side tensioning band - 1 - should be guided along the cover and engage in the front area of the panel bracket - 2 - - arrow -.
The short sill side tensioning band - 1 - should be guided between the upholstery and side panel and clipped under seat sideways into seat pan - arrow -.
