Shift Cable: Adjustments






Selector Lever Cable Adjustment, through 02.2009

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

The selector lever cable must always be adjusted if:

The selector lever cable was removed from the transmission.

The engine and/or transmission were removed and installed.

Parts of the engine/transmission mounts were removed and installed.

The cable or shift mechanism was removed and installed.

The engine/transmission position was changed, for example, installed free of tension.

Adjusting

- Shift the selector lever to the "P" position.

Shift lever on transmission into the "P" position.





Lever on transmission must be pressed all the way back.

If there is any uncertainty:

- Pull the shift lever all the way forward.

- Then press the shift lever back.

The "P" position is in the second detent.

- Install the cable with a loosened adjustment bolt - arrow - and new lock washers - A and B -.





- Push the lever on the transmission back - arrow -. Bring the transmission into "P".





The vehicle can be raised to ensure the transmission is in the " P" position (parking lock is engaged). Both front wheels must not be able to be turned together in one direction.

The transmission is also in the "P" position, if the vehicle does not move with wheels spinning freely.

- Lightly tap the button on the knob forward and backward and make sure to keep the knob in the "P" position.

This locates the cable core in its optimal position.

- Tighten the adjustment bolt - arrow - to 13 Nm.





This ends the adjustment.
