Clutch Pedal and Hydraulics

Clutch Pedal

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Pliers (T10005)

• Assembly Tool (T10178)

• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Removing

- Slide the driver's seat as far back as possible and set the steering wheel to the highest position.

- Remove the trim on the driver's side and the cover below the trim.





- Remove the cable guide - 2 - from the steering column.

- Remove the footwell vents - 3 -.

There are different ways of securing the impact bolster - 1 - in front of the clutch pedal - 2 -.

Securing with two bolts

- Remove the impact bolster bolts and bolster - 1 -.





Securing with one bolt

- Remove the impact bolster bolts - 2 - and bolster - 1 -.





If equipped, the sound absorber - arrow - installed over the mounting bracket/clutch pedal needs to be removed.





- Remove the sound absorber lock washers - A -.





- Push the sound absorber in the area of the mounting bracket upper nut - 1 - up and over the clutch pedal - A - in the - direction of the arrow -.

- Remove the sound absorber.





- Remove the clutch pedal - 1 - from the mounting bracket - 3 -, to do so, remove the nut - 2 - and pull out the bolt - 5 -.





- Swivel the clutch pedal slightly toward the front and remove the over center spring - 4 - from the mounting bracket.

- Release the clutch pedal from the master cylinder using (T10005).





- Remove the clutch pedal.

Installing

Install in reverse sequence; note the following points:

• Replace the self locking nut.

- Install the mount - 2 - onto the master cylinder operating rod - 1 -.





- Press the mount into the notch on the clutch pedal - 3 - until it engages audibly.

- Install the over center spring - 2 - from above into the mounting bracket and hold the spring end in the installed position using the (T10178) while doing so.





- The mounting area - arrow - for the clutch pedal pivot - A - - 1 - must be positioned vertically.





- Insert the clutch pedal pivot - A - into the over center spring - arrow -.

- Press the clutch pedal slightly, push the bolt through and tighten the self locking nut. Tightening specification, refer to.

If equipped, the sound absorber - arrow - over the mounting bracket/clutch pedal needs to be reinstalled.





- Bring the sound absorber back into the installed position.

Securing with two bolts

- Install the impact bolster - 1 - and tighten the two bolts. Tightening specification, refer to.





Securing with one bolt

- Install the impact bolster - 1 - and tighten the bolt - 2 -. Tightening specification, refer to.





- Install the trim cover on the driver side, as well as the covering under the trim.
