Wiring Diagram

Oil Pressure Switch, Checking

Test Conditions

Engine oil level OK, checking. Refer to => [ Engine Oil Level, Checking ] Testing and Inspection.

Engine oil temperature at least 80 °C (176 °F) (coolant fan must start up once).

Test Sequence

For the functional check and servicing of the optical and acoustic oil pressure warning. Refer to and "Function and Component Selection" in the vehicle diagnostic tester.

- Disconnect the connector from the oil pressure switch.

- Remove the oil pressure switch - 2 - and then install it in the oil pressure gauge (V.A.G 1342).

- Install the oil pressure gauge (V.A.G 1342) in place of the oil pressure switch into the bracket.

- Connect the brown wire - 1 - from the oil pressure gauge (V.A.G 1342) to Ground (GND).

- Connect the voltage tester (V.A.G 1527 B) using adapter cables from the connector test set (V.A.G 1594 C) to the battery positive (+) terminal and the oil pressure switch.

The Light Emitting Diode (LED) must not light up.

If the LED lights up:

- Replace the oil pressure switch:

Tightening specification, see - item 7 - in the => [ Oil Filter Bracket and Oil Cooler Overview ] Oil Filter Bracket and Oil Cooler Overview.

If the LED does not light up:

- Start the engine and slowly increase the engine speed:

The LED must illuminate at between 0.55 to 0.85 bar pressure. If it does not, replace the oil pressure switch.

Tightening specification, see - item 7 - in the => [ Oil Filter Bracket and Oil Cooler Overview ] Oil Filter Bracket and Oil Cooler Overview.

Oil Pressure, Checking

Conditions

Checking the oil pressure switch. Refer to => [ Oil Pressure Switch, Checking ].

Test Sequence

- Increase the engine speed further.

At 2000 RPM and an oil temperature of 80 °C (176 °F), the oil pressure must be at least 2.0 bar.

The oil pressure must not exceed 7.0 bar at higher engine speeds.

If the specification is not obtained:

- Replace the oil filter bracket, as necessary. Refer to => [ Oil Filter Bracket and Oil Cooler Overview ] Oil Filter Bracket and Oil Cooler Overview.

Also, mechanical damage , for example, bearing damage can also be the cause of too low oil pressure.
