Front Brakes Assembly Overview, with Brake Pad Wear Display

• After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal several times firmly to properly seat brake pads in their normal operating position.

• Use Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit (VAS 5234) to extract brake fluid from brake fluid reservoir.

• Before removing a brake caliper or disconnecting a brake hose, the brake pedal loading device (V.A.G 1869/2) should be installed (relieve pressure).






1 Bolt

• 4 Nm

2 Brake Disc

• Ventilated inside, 288 mm diameter, 15 inches

• Ventilated inside, 312 mm diameter, 16 inches

• Thickness: 25 mm

• Wear limit: 22 mm

• Replace both brake discs on each axle.

• Remove brake caliper before removing.

3 Brake Pads

• Thickness: 14 mm without backing plate

• With front brake pad wear sensor.

• When wear limit is reached (limit: approximately 4 mm) the brake system indicator lamp (K118) lights up in the instrument cluster. Refer to => [ Level Control System Indicator Lamps ] Level Control System Indicator Lamps.

• Wear limit: 2 mm with backing plate

• Check brake pads, very thorough maintenance.

• Replace both brake discs on each axle.

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Pads ] Brake Pads.

4 Retaining Spring

• Insert in both holes of brake caliper.

5 Brake Carrier

• Bolt to wheel bearing housing.

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Carrier ] Brake Carrier.

6 Brake Caliper

• Do not unscrew brake hose when replacing brake pad.

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Caliper ] Brake Caliper.

• Servicing, refer to => [ Front Brake Caliper Assembly Overview ] Front Brake Caliper Assembly Overview.

7 Guide Pins

• 30 Nm

8 Cap

• Remove

9 Brake Hose with Ring Connection and Banjo Fitting

• 35 Nm

10 Bolt

• 200 Nm

• Clean if using again.

12 Bracket

13 Wheel Bearing Housing

• With fastened brake carrier.

14 Front ABS Wheel Speed Sensor

• Clean the inside of the hole and coat it with hot bolt paste (G 052 112 A3) before installing the sensor.

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Front ABS Wheel Speed Sensor ] Front ABS Wheel Speed Sensor.

15 Bolt

• 8 Nm

16 Cover Plate

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Cover Plate ] Cover Plate.

17 Bolt

• 12 Nm

18 Wheel Bearing/Wheel Bearing Unit

• The ABS sensor ring is installed in the wheel bearing.
