Current Draw, Checking

Current Draw, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Multi-meter, for example, Hand-Held Multi-Meter (V.A.G 1526 D)

Current Clamp (V.A.G 1526B/2) , or equivalent

Test Instrument Adapter/DSO (5-pin) (VAS 5565)

Vehicle Diagnostic Tester

The battery voltage and the temperature of the diesel fuel strongly influences the current draw of the fuel pump. Make sure the battery voltage is at least 12 bolts and the temperature of the diesel fuel inside the fuel tank is not at the freezing point.

Test Conditions:

Battery voltage is at least 12 volts

Diesel fuel temperature is above 10 °C (50 °F)

- Remove the rear seat bench.

- Fold the carpet to the side or towards the front.

- Remove the cover from the fuel delivery unit.

- Disconnect the connector - C - from the flange.

- Install the test instrument adapter/DSO (5-pin) (VAS 5565) between the connector on the cover and the fuel delivery unit.

- Connect a current clamp - A - to the red wire of the test instrument adapter/DSO (5-pin) (VAS 5565) with the words "current clamp" on it.

The current clamp from the multi-meter (V.A.G 1715) can also be connected to the red wire with the words "current clamp" on it.

- Disconnect the connector from the auxiliary fuel pump/fuel pump 2 (in-line electric fuel pump) inside the engine compartment.

- Turn the ignition on.

- Connect the vehicle diagnostic tester and perform the guided function "Check Electric Fuel Pumps".

The fuel pump now runs for 30 seconds.

- Read the current draw on the multi-meter:

Specified value: Max. 7.5 amperes.

- If the measured value lies outside the specified value:

- Replace the fuel delivery unit. Refer to => [ Fuel Delivery Unit ] Fuel Delivery Unit.
