Cylinder Head Cover
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
Removing
- Remove the air filter (engine cover). Refer to => [ Air Filter and Engine Cover ] Air Filter and Engine Cover.
- Remove the intake hose - 4 - between the throttle valve control module (J338) and air filter. To do so, disconnect the hose - 1 -, if present, and the hose - 2 - (compress the securing ring) and remove the spring clamp - 3 -.
- Remove the hose - arrow - from the crankcase ventilation.
- Remove the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) connecting pipe - A -.
- Remove the ignition coils - 1 through 5 -. Refer to => [ Ignition Coils with Power Output Stages ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the cylinder head cover bolts in the following sequence: - 16 through 1 -.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:
• Replace the cylinder head cover if damaged or leaking.
- Clean the sealing surfaces, they must be free of oil and grease.
- Tighten the cylinder head cover bolts in sequence - 1 through 16 -.
- Follow the tightening sequence when installing the connecting pipe - A -. Refer to => [ Connecting Pipe Bolt- Tightening Sequence ] Service and Repair.
