Parking Brake Shoe: Service and Repair

The following procedure is applicable to all models. Some models may use either Girling or ATE type rear caliper assemblies, Figs. 3 and 4.

1. Loosen parking brake cable adjusting screw.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove rear wheels.
3. Remove caliper.
4. Remove brake disc, then remove brake shoe springs, brake shoes and adjuster, if applicable. On some models, it may be necessary to work through holes in axle shaft flange to gain access to springs.
5. Before assembly, apply a thin layer of heat resistant graphite grease or equivalent on brake shoe sliding surface.
6. Install brake shoes, springs and adjuster, if applicable.
7. Install brake disc and caliper.
8. Adjust parking brake as outlined under ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES/PARKING BRAKE.
