Carbon filter replacement on earlier vehicles

The previous version carbon filter is no longer available. When replacing the filter on earlier models (where it is mounted in the engine compartment), the new component should be relocated under the left-front fender, as on current production models.

To accomplish this, use the following parts.

The locations of the holes required for mounting the unit must be marked out on cars not already provided with holes.

Operational check

The function of carbon filters used on some older models may be opposite to that on newer cars. In all cases, the filter must be operating only at higher engine speeds, not when the engine is idling. As a result, it is important that the hoses be connected correctly when the filter is installed.

To verify proper operation:

- start the engine. Feel the opening of the lighter hose to ensure that suction is not present when idling.
- rev the engine and check that suction is present in both hoses.

- connect the heavier hose to the bottom branch and the lighter hose to the upper branch.
