THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO BOTH THE U.S. AND CANADIAN MARKETS

VOLVO SPECIAL TOOL # 5407

WARNING: BOTH TOOLS, NO. 5407 MUST BE CHECKED ACCORDING TO THE PROCEDURE SHOWN BELOW BEFORE USING THEM AGAIN.

1. Remove the "nut portions" from the tool, leaving only the bolt.



2. Placing the bolt on a flat surface, rotate the bolt to see if it is bent, i.e. has radial runout, as shown below.
Note the high & low points and measure the vertical runout. If the bolt is bent, i.e. has an vertical runout in excessive of 3 MM, replace it under the provisions of our Special Tool Warranty. if the bolt is not bent beyond specifications, continue with the next step.



3. Carefully secure the top and bottom "nut" portions of the tool in the jaws of a vise so they cannot rotate.

4. Torque the bolt to 150-170 N-m (110-125 ft.lbs.)

5. If any deformation is observed in the bolt, do not use the tool. Replace it under the provisions of our special tool warranty.

6. If no deformation of the bolt is observed, the tool may be used.

7. All tools P/N 999 5407-5 ordered from our Parts Division after May 5, 1990 have already been checked according to this procedure.
