CHANGES ARE HIGHLIGHTED IN THE MARGINS
During the month of March, all North American Volvo Dealers were issued, as Mandatory Shop Equipment, the Volvo Multi-Function Tester. The tester's capabilities are as follows:
Fault trace the following gauges and instruments and their related senders/transmitters.
- Tachometers - Temperature Gauges
- Speedometers - Fuel Gauges
^ Fault tracing can be performed in the vehicle.
^ Reads off SRS fault codes and can be used to reset the crash sensor.
^ Tests ABS wheel sensors
^ Voltmeter, Ohmmeter, milliampmeter functions
^ Hall switch function (simple OK or fault found check)
^ Duration timing in milliseconds or percentage (injectors or any duty cycle)
^ Dwell angle from ignition coil
^ Ignition timing (flywheel pickup)
^ Engine RPM
^ Cruise control function (square wave signal generator)
^ Decode LH2.4 and EZK116 "on-board" systems
^ Reads off in Metric and English scales
^ Temperature readouts
^ Pressure or vacuum readouts

Ordering Procedures - Price
Each dealer will receive one unit complete with accessories automatically. The price of these units is $795.00 U.S. (includes shipping and $1,025.00 Canadian (the Canadian price includes all shipping, customs, duties and federal taxes). Any additional testers or accessories requested can be ordered by contacting the Tool and Equipment Supervisor at (201) 784-4545. The units will be drop shipped direct from the manufacturer, Combined Technologies, and the dealer will be invoiced by Volvo on his parts statement.
Limited Warranty
Combined Technologies will warranty the test instrument against defects in material or workmanship for one year from the date of invoice. During the warranty period, if a warrantable condition exists, a new or remanufactured replacement unit will be sent freight prepaid to the dealer by Combined Technologies from an exchange inventory. The dealer will be responsible for mailing the faulty test instrument back to Combined Technologies within 14 days or become liable for the cost of a new tester. Service
Upon expiration of warranty coverage, Combined Technologies will continue their exchange program. Dealers can submit the faulty tester to Combined Technologies who in turn will immediately issue a new or remanufactured replacement unit. Combined Technologies will diagnose the problem with the faulty unit and invoice the dealer directly for the repairs For the first two years of service the hour labor rate will not exceed $45.00* per hour. A minimum service charge of $35.00 *shall apply (includes freight).
Software Upgrades
One of the best features of this instrument is that it can be upgraded to adapt to new model applications. Combined Technologies will continue to support the test instruments with software upgrades on an annual basis or whenever new car models vary from existing models, thus requiring changes. The cost for these upgrades are presently estimated at $69.00* (+/- 10%). The actual method of implementing the software upgrade will be accomplised by the dealer simply plugging in a new EPROM which will be shipped freight prepaid by Combined Technologies to each U.S. Volvo Dealer. Canadian Dealers will be charged freight and customs, duty or tax charges. Combined Technologies will maintain a customer list and supply the updates automatically when available.
Exclusivity
Combined Technologies agrees that any sales of this tester configured with software specifically for Volvo cars, shall be handled exclusively by Volvo Cars of North America and our dealer body.
Shop Equipment is offered by Volvo Cars of North America through independent vendors as a service to its dealers. VOLVO CARS OF NORTH AMERICA MAKES NO REPRESENTATION ON WARRANTY, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, IN REGARD TO THE SHOP EQUIPMENT.
