THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO THE U.S. AND CANADA.
If all engine functions are normal, but cold start difficulties are experienced at temperatures below 0~F(-18~C), this condition may be caused by an over-rich fuel mixture.
A new LH control unit is available to improve cold starting.
NOTE: This control unit will be introduced during 1986 M/Y as a running change.
REQUIRED PART: Description Part No. Quantity
LH control unit 5003607-8 1
Replace the old control unit, which is located under the right side kick panel, with new LH control unit, Bosch Part No. 0 280 000 544.
Repeated cold start attempts can cause spark plug fouling, oil dilution and battery discharging. Check for these conditions as follows:
Spark Plugs
- Remove plugs and check for deposits
- Replace plugs if fouled
Oil
- Remove oil dipstick and check for distinctive gasoline smell
- If YES, change oil
Battery
- Check battery specific gravity. At 68~F(20~C), specific gravity should be 1.230.
- Recharge battery if specific gravity is below 1.230.
- Check battery terminals for corrosion and tightness
- Clean/tighten battery terminals as needed
CUSTOMER INFORMATION
Customers must be aware of correct starting procedure, especially during cold weather.
Without touching the accelerator, engage starter for 10-15 seconds until the engine starts.
NOTE: Repeated short starting attempts of less than 10 seconds must be avoided. Do NOT use the accelerator while starting the engine.
