Component Tests and General Diagnostics


Fault tracing using the VOLVO tool #8190 and adapter #8191 or equivalent, can be performed as follows:

Connecting VOLVO Fault Tracing Tool:





1. Turn ignition OFF.
IMPORTANT: Always turn ignition OFF when connecting/disconnecting ECU connector plug.
2. Remove passenger side kick panel, under dash panel and glove compartment.
3. Access ECU, release catch and fold out connector with wiring harness.
4. Connect VOLVO tool #8190 and adapter #8191 (or equivalent) as shown.
5. Turn "A" on side to setting #2.
Setting #2 is for turbo charged engines, setting #1 is for naturally aspirated engines.
6. Use "B" to select item to be checked (position 9 and 10 are for calibrating the instrument).

Calibrating Test Instrument:





7. Turn ignition ON.
8. Turn "B" to position 10.
9. Turn calibration screw until pointer indicates zero.
10. Select position 9 and check that pointer shows "5".
NOTE: It is not possible to calibrate the instrument to show "5". If reading is different, service the tester.
