THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO THE U.S. AND CANADA.
REFERENCE: P20 SB 87-117 DATED MAY 1986. SERVICE MANUAL TP 30461/1 (ENGLISH), AIR CONDITIONING

The A/C hose, which is pointed out below, may fatigue at the metal elbow if excessive tension has been applied to it as the engine moves during normal operation. This tension is created by the clamp which does not allow the hose to move with the engine. Removal of this clamp will alleviate this problem.

Attention should also be paid to the routing of the A/C hose. The two drawings below show the correct and incorrect hose positions. As seen in the incorrect drawing, the A/C belt adjustment bolt (arrow) cannot be adjusted.
WARNING: Safety glasses must be worn. Freon forms poisonous gas when heated. Do not smoke or have anything in the area which can ignite or cause sparks. See "Safety Precautions" on pg. 7 of TP 30461/1.

To correct the hose routing, first read through the procedure below, then follow the steps outlined.

1. Slightly loosen the hose fitting at the compressor and position it correctly (see drawing).

NOTE: Use extreme care not to loosen the fitting too much, as this will result in a loss of freon. Care must also be taken to insure the fitting is loose enough so that the metal portion of the hose slides within the compressor. If not, the metal portion may bend.

2. After completing this operation, check the fitting with a freon leak detector.

NOTE: If a leak is found and can not be corrected by tightening the fitting, drain the system and replace the O-ring at the fitting. Also check for cracks in the metal portion of the hose. Follow the procedures in service manual TP 30461/1 for draining, evacuating and refilling procedures.
REQUIRED PARTS: Part Description Part No. Quantity

O-ring 686356-7 1 If Needed

Hose 1373907-3 1 If Needed

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

1. If a hose has broken and the system is open to the atmosphere, the receiver/drier must be replaced. The compressor oil level must also be checked. (See page 7 of TP 30461/1)

2. Refer to SB GR. 87 No. 117, A/C filler. The procedures found in this bulletin may also have to be performed before the system is refilled.

When the procedure in step 1 has been performed during the new vehicle warranty period, warranty claims must be submitted as follows:
