Differential Assembly: Application and ID

The Drive Axle Type and Gear Ratio Information Plate (sticker) is located on the Left Axle Tube for Solid Axle Type drive units, and on the [1][2]Differential Center Section for Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) Type drive units.


Type 1030
- Solid Axle Type.
- Used from 1983 to 1989 in various 700 series.

Type 1031 (early)
- Solid Axle Type.
- Heavy duty version of Type 1030.
- Used from 1983 to 1990 in various 700 and 900 series.
- Has stamped steel rear cover.

Type 1031 (late)
- Solid Axle Type.
- Updated version of Type 1031 (lighter housing).
- Used from 1990 to 1995 in various 700 and 900 series.
- Has cast aluminum rear cover.

Type 1035
- Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) Type.
- Used from 1988 to 1990 in 4 door 760 series (NO wagons).
- Used from 1988 to 1991 in all 780 series.
- Used in 1991 in 4 door 940SE series (NO wagons).
- Used from 1992 to 1994 in 4 door 960 series (NO wagons).

Type 1041 (early)
- Solid axle Type.
- Limited Slip (Dana) version of Type 1031 (early).
- Used from 1983 to 1990 in various 700 and 900 series.
- Has stamped steel rear cover.

Type 1041 (late)
- Solid axle Type.
- Locking [1][2]Differential (Eaton) version of Type 1031 (late).
- Used from 1990 to 1995 in various 700 and 900 series.
- Has cast aluminum rear cover.

- Used from 1988 to 1990 in 4 door 760 series (NO wagons).
