RE: AUXILIARY
COOLING FAN NUT

700 1986-88 M/Y

ALL ENGINES
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO THE U.S. AND CANADA
REFERENCE: NONE

Vibration and/or noise from the front end of the car can be caused by the auxiliary fan attachment nut coming loose, allowing the fan to contact the condenser.

NOTE: The noise can occur at driving speeds even if the fan is not energized, due to ram air effect causing the fan to rotate.

AFFECTED
PRODUCTION: These symptoms can occur on all 1986 and 1987 700 series and on 1988 740 series only up to the following chassis numbers:

Assembly Plant #1 Assembly Plant #2 Assembly Plant #3
(Sweden) (Belgium) (Canada)

744 - 230400 232219 256350

745 - 140285 141098 153750

In production, locking fluid is applied to the fan motor shaft threads from the above chassis numbers.

The fan blade is held to the fan motor shaft by a reverse-threaded nut. Apply locking fluid P/N 1161053-2 (Locktite 290 or similiar) to the threads of the fan motor shaft and torque the nut to 3 N-m (26.5 in. lbs.).

CAUTION:
Do not exceed the recommended torque as this will cause damage to the fan motor, and remember that the nut is reverse threaded.
