Diode Installation to Block Diagnostic System Indicator Lamp Flashing

In some cases, the diagnostic system on cars with the EZ-116K ignition system is prone to disturbance. This may occur when the engine has been stopped, the ignition switched off, and the engine is turning a few revolutions before coming to rest.

The disturbance occurs in the alternator field winding and takes the form of constant flashing of the indicating lamp when the test lead is connected to socket 6 on the diagnostic unit.

This situation is rare and may be corrected by installing a diode kit, p/n 3544336-5.

Note: Paint a yellow spot on the inside of the diagnostic unit cover to facilitate subsequent verification that the diode kit has been installed.
