Short Cable, Left and Right-Hand (Multilink)

BRAKE CABLE, REPLACEMENT (MULTILINK)

SHORT CABLES ON LEFT AND RIGHT-HAND SIDES

AE1. Slacken parking brake adjuster.





AE2. Jack up and support rear of car. Remove wheel
Mark wheel position if locating stud is not fitted.
AE3. Remove brake caliper
Tie up caliper with steel wire to avoid damage to brake hose.





AE4. Remove brake disc

Note: Mark brake disc (with X) to indicate position with respect to locating stud.

Remove locating stud and disc.
AE5. Remove parking brake shoes.





AE6. Disconnect short right-hand cable from long cable





AE7. Remove:
^ expander from cable
^ locking clip from cable
^ cable

Installation





AE8. Lubricate cable O-ring with Vaseline
AE9. Install:
^ cable
^ locking clip
^ expander. Note arrow on expander (see illustration, for AE7).





AE10. Connect short cable to long cable





AE11. Install brake shoes, return spring, link and clip





AE12. Install:
^ brake disc as per marking
^ locating stud. Tighten to 8 Nm (6 ft. lbs.)
^ brake caliper. Use new bolts. Tighten to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.).
AE13. Refit wheels as per markings
Finger-tighten nuts, then torque diagonally to 85 Nm (63 ft. lbs.).

AE14. Lower car and readjust parking brake.
