Parking Brake System: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION
Mounted between the front seats, the parking brake lever pivots about a spindle attached to a bracket welded to the propeller shaft tunnel. The lever is provided with a ratchet which is released by a push-button on the end of the lever. A switch, which activates a lamp on the panel to indicate that the brake is applied, is also mounted on the bracket and is operated by the lever. The lever is connected to the drum brakes at the rear by means of a cable. The front end of the cable sleeve is provided with an adjuster connected to a spring sleeve which permits the lever to be tightened by two notches after the brakes have been applied. This eliminates the ratchet and ensures that the cable tension is maintained constantly above a certain minimum (equal to the spring tension).
