Instrument Cluster / Carrier: Service Precautions

Vehicles with ``SRS'' designation on steering wheel are equipped with air bag restraint system. Use extreme caution when working around steering column to avoid personal injury.

NOTE: On models equipped with microprocessor radios, always switch radio OFF and obtain radio theft code before disconnecting or connecting battery ground cable to prevent damage to radio.

AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING

To disarm airbag system, disconnect battery ground cable.

Wait at least 10 minutes after disconnecting the battery cable before performing any service.

- The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) is designed to retain enough voltage to deploy the airbag for a short time even after the battery ground cable has been disconnected.

- Performing any service before the minimum 10 minutes has elapsed may cause airbag deployment and possible injury.

Disconnect the orange (SRS) connector as shown in Fig. 1.
