Modification of tank sender ground lead

The tank sender ground lead on 1991 models is revised in comparison with earlier models.

After present stock is depleted, only senders with the modified lead will be available for replacement.

A simple modification to the tank sender wiring harness is required for installation on 1990 or earlier models. In addition, for models up to and including 1987, replacement of the vehicle harness connector may be required.

PROCEDURE

- On the tank assembly harness, open the lid on the connector over positions 2 and 4.

- Remove the terminal from position 4 (black wire), and cut off the terminal.

- Make an incision in the harness insulation 400 mm (15-3/4 in.) from the rubber grommet.

- Pull the black wire out through the incision.

- Cut the wire 200 mm (approx. 8 in.) from the incision, and crimp an eyelet terminal, p/n 958220-6, onto the wire end.

Pre-pump/tank sender connector change:

Secure the black lead at the existing ground terminal on the body, as shown.

If the replacement unit has a mini-timer connector, and the car has a 3-pole round-pin connector, install a mini-timer connector in place of the vehicle harness connector.
