Background:

A new tool consisting of four pieces, has been developed for replacing the rear bushing in the control arm of the front suspension. The wheel alignment is no longer required after the bushings have been replaced.

Updating Service Manual:

Please write "To replace the control arm bushing see Service Bulletin 61-0001" in the Service Manual in ink:

Replacing control arm bushing

New tool for replacing control arm bushing

Special tools: 951 2564, 999 5575, 999 5576, 999 5592, 999 5741, 999 5741-1, 999 5741-2, 999 5741-3

Removing stay





Remove the stay (cross bar) as per illustration. (four bolts)

Removing plastic flanges

Caution!
Eye protection should be worn when performing this step.





Carefully remove the plastic flanges of the bushings with a chisel or equivalent.

Removing bushings





Secure a 100 mm (4 inch) spacer between the frame rail and the control arm as per illustration.

Install the assembly tool as per Illustration and carefully press out the bushing.

Locating the new bushing





Locate the new bushing to the top of the control arm so that the markings correspond.

Installing the new bushings

Make sure the spacer is well secured.





Assemble the tool with the bushing as per illustration and carefully press the new bushing into place.

Make sure the new bushing is seated properly in the control arm.

Installing control arm and stay

Remove all paint and dirt off the top of the two tapered mounting pins on the stay (cross bar) and on the two corresponding pins on the frame rails.





Install the stay (cross bar) with all 4 bolts loosely. Tighten the two long bolts (through the tapered mounting pins) side to side evenly until the tapered pins are seated.

Torque all 4 bolts to 100 Nm (74 ft.lb)





WARRANTY STATEMENT: Warranty may be submitted under the new car factory warranty when there is a documented customer complaint, using claim type 01.
