Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Installation

1. Put the bearing in the cage.
- Grease the bearing seat with a little bushing compound (P/N 1161153-0) and press the bearing into the cage.
- Use drift P/N 5242 as a support. Press with drift P/N 5243.

2. Tap the front protective ring onto the propeller shaft. Use a plastic mallet.

NOTE: Use the right type of front ring. See front ring types in "Description and Operation".

3. Fit the bearing with cage. Inside diameter:
- 35 mm (1.38 in) and 40 mm (1.58 in) - use drift P/N 5087
- 45 mm use drift P/N 5085
4. Fit the rear protective ring. Inside diameter:
- 35 and 40 mm - use drift P/N 5087
- 45 mm (1.77 in) use drift P/N 5085

NOTE: Tap evenly so that the ring goes on straight.

5. Check that the bearing spins easily.
6. Fit the rubber boot and aluminium ring, if any. Grease with petroleum jelly. Make sure that the boot fits into the groove and is held in place by the aluminium ring.

7. Install the propeller shaft.
- Fit the rubber ring, if any, for the rubber boot on the rear propeller shaft section.
- Grease the splines with grease P/N 1161 033-4.
- Make sure that the marks coincide and that the yokes are in the same position.

NOTE: Angular misalignment between the yokes will cause vibration.

8. Connect the propeller shaft to the coupling flange on the transmission. Socket P/N 5244 for shafts with universal joint and 15 mm bolt head.

9. Put the rubber boot in place and fit the rubber ring over it.
10. Fit the center support.
11. Centre the bearing cage and tighten the cage to the bracket.
