Protection for connectors on the B23OF/FT, B234F engines
The engine management system connectors/components should be cleaned and protected if oxidation or driveability problems are encountered. If diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) have been recorded although no fault is detected, connectors/components should also be cleaned and protected. The application of grease to connectors improves their long term reliability. The connectors shown in this service bulletin are of the type used in LH engine management systems. The corresponding connectors in REX/Regina systems may be protected in the same manner.
Material P/N
Rust remover 1161435-1 or 1161034-2
Low-temperature grease 1161417-9 or 1161236-3
Caution:
Do not use rust remover or grease on the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) connectors.
B230F/FT, B234F ENGINE
Power space, idle air control valve (IAC valve), throttle position switch (TP switch), engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT sensor), engine speed sensor (RPM sensor), knock sensor, EGR temperature sensor and mass air flow sensor (MAF sensor) connectors should be protected.
Caution:
Care should be taken not to damage or misplace the seals when disconnecting connectors.
Greasing of the above connectors has been introduced in production from the following chassis no.:
240: 482738 (4 door) 240: 947845 (5 door)
940: 128400 (4 door) 940: 079100 (5 door)
Procedure
Turn Ignition off
Remove RPM sensor connector (see arrow)
Remove MAF sensor connector
Remove power stage connector
Remove connectors for:
1. Knock sensor
2. ECT sensor
3. TP switch
4. EGR temperature sensor (where applicable)
5. IAC valve
Clean connectors
Spray connector halves (male and female) with rust remover.
Caution:
Do not use rust remover or grease on the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) connectors.
Grease connectors
Press grease into connectors directly from tube.
Check that all spaces around connector terminals are filled.
Do not fill protective boots.
Reconnect connectors
Ensure that all seals are in proper position prior to reconnection.
Start engine and leave it running, one minute, then check on-board diagnostic system to ensure that no DTCs have been stored.
