Scan Tool Testing and Procedures

TEST BOX APPLICATIONS
Test box 9813190 is designed to assist with tests on: Control module input/output signals with the control module in circuit. Lead and component resistance with the control module not in circuit. Using the test box can make readings more reliable, as it is easier to see and reach test points. It also reduces the risk of short-circuiting leads accidentally or damaging connector pins. When using the test box, it is important to remember the basic checks to make and the designations to use.

NOTE:
^ For testing ABS system control module and connectors, the test box must be used with adapter 9813192.
^ Before connecting or disconnecting the test box, cut power to the control module; otherwise there is a risk of damaging the control module or causing DTCs to be stored.

CONNECTING TEST BOX WITHOUT CONTROL MODULE
- Ignition off.
- Remove control module and attach adapter and test box to ABS system connector. This setup is used to measure the resistance of leads and components in the ABS system direct with the control module disconnected.

CONNECTING TEST BOX TO CONTROL MODULE
- Ignition off
- Insert adapter between control module and ABS system connector.
This setup is used to take voltage readings on electrical and electronic circuits with the control module in circuit.

CHECKING TEST BOX
- Ignition off
- Disconnect test box from control module and ABS connector.
- Check internal leads between test box and adapter. Ohmmeter should read approx. 0 ohms.
If reading is incorrect:
- Disconnect adapter 9813192 from test box and check leads in test box and adapter to see where the open-circuit is.
- Replace test box or adapter.

CHECKING TEST BOX, GROUND POINTS
- Ignition off.
- Connect adapter and test box to ABS system connector.
- Insert an ohmmeter between a ground point on the car and the test box connections as follows:
Test box # 4
Test box # 9
Test box # 10
Test box # 20
Test box # 21
Test box # 34
Ohmmeter should read approx. 0 ohms.
