Ignition System Schematic:

PURPOSE
The Bosch EZ116K ignition system, used with the LH2.4 injection system, provides optimum performance, driveability and emissions compliance. The system features a programmed advance curve, knock control, self-diagnostics, and fault code storage capabilities.

OPERATION
The ECU monitors electrical input signals from various devices and sensors to determine the engine temperature, load, and speed. Input signals are evaluated by a micro-processor to calculate precise timing and dwell requirements. The ECU sends an ON/OFF ground signal to the power stage which acts as a switch for the ignition coil.

If the self diagnostic circuit ("on board diagnostics") in the ECU detects a fault in the ignition system, it activates the "CHECK ENGINE" light.

To determine what component or components need further testing or replacement, extract fault codes using the diagnostic socket. The system can store up to three fault codes.
