Component Tests and General Diagnostics

CHECKING DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC)

NOTE: The DLC consists of two connected units, A and B
Connect selector cable to DLC A socket 3.





1. Checking LED
- Ignition on.
- Press button on DLC A.
LED should light up when button is pressed. If LED lights up but no codes appear: Go to step 4.





2. Checking power supply
- Remove connector from underside of DLC A.
- Connect a voltmeter between ground and connector A pin 4.
- Ignition on.
Voltmeter should read battery voltage (approx. 12 volts). If reading is correct, If reading is incorrect: Check fuse 11/22 and associated leads for open-circuit.





3. Checking ground point
- Ignition off.
- Remove connector from underside of DLC A.
- Insert an ohmmeter between ground and connector A pin 8.
Ohmmeter reading should be approx. 0 ohms. If reading is correct: Try another DLC. If reading is incorrect: Check ground point and associated leads for open-circuit.





4. Checking diagnostic signal from control module
- Ignition on.
- Remove selector cable from A3.
- Connect a voltmeter between ground and DLC A terminal 3.





Voltmeter reading should be approx. 10 volts. If reading is correct: Replace DLC. If reading is incorrect: Check lead between terminal 31 on ABS system connector and DLC A pin 3 for open-circuit or short-circuit to ground.
