DTC 1-3-2

1-3-2 BATTERY VOLTAGE

Condition(s) for DTC
^ The DTC is recorded if the battery voltage is less than 10V or exceeds 16V for 5 seconds after the engine has started.

Substitute value
^ None.

Fault source(s)
^ Faulty battery.
^ Charging system does not charge sufficiently or overcharges.
^ Contact resistance between battery positive terminal and MFI module #A19.

Fault symptom(s)
^ None.

TESTING PROCEDURE

Status message
^ Check current Status Message.

If Status Message is: Permanent fault, voltage faulty:
- Proceed to PERMANENT FAULT, INCORRECT VOLTAGE Section below.
If Status Message is: Intermittent fault, voltage faulty:
- Proceed to INTERMITTENT FAULT, INCORRECT VOLTAGE Section below.

PERMANENT FAULT, INCORRECT VOLTAGE

Checking supply voltage to MFI module
^ START engine.
^ Display DTC parameter list.
^ Read battery voltage.

Value should be 13 - 16 Volts.

If value is over 16 Volts:
- Check charging system for excessively high charge.
If value is below 13 Volts:
- Check battery voltage.

Checking battery voltage
^ IDLE engine.
^ Connect voltmeter across battery positive and negative terminals.

Instrument should indicate 13 - 16 Volts.

If reading is correct:
- Check lead between MFI module A19 and battery for contact resistance and oxidation.
If reading is incorrect:
- Check charging system for excessively low charge rate.

INTERMITTENT FAULT, INCORRECT VOLTAGE

Checking wiring and connections
^ Check MFI module and main relay connectors, as well as battery and generator (GEN) terminals, for loose connections and for contact resistance and oxidation.
^ Check lead between battery and MFI module A19 for contact resistance and oxidation.
