DTC 1-3-1 Digital Output 12 Pulse Short-Circuit To Supply
Conditions for fault-tracing:
- Output signal assumes maximum specified value, just below battery voltage.
Sources of fault:
- Signal lead short-circuited to battery supply.
Symptoms:
NOTE: There are no visible symptoms on the instrument panel with this DTC.
- Cruise control not working properly, tends to cut out.
- High speed warning buzzer not working (some markets only).
Checking DTCs, Engine Management System:
- Ignition on.
- Check if DTC 3-1-1 has been posted in the engine management system diagnostic system, DLCs A2 and A6.
If DTC 3-1-1 is posted:
- Check output signal from instrument panel, see below.
If DTC 3-1-1 is not posted:
- Intermittent short-circuit to battery supply in signal lead from instrument panel.
- Check signal lead between instrument panel terminal # A7 and engine management system terminal # B18 and following signal leads (depending on cars fittings) for intermittent short-circuit to battery supply:
- Cruise control - Check signal lead between instrument panel terminal # A7 and cruise control module terminal 8S.
- High speed warning buzzer - Check signal lead between instrument panel terminal # A7 and speed Warner terminal # 6.
- Checking Cables and Terminals
Checking Instrument Panel Output Signals:
- Ignition off.
- Expose instrument panel. (Remove Dash Board Cover) Service and Repair
- Connect test box to cable harness connector and check ground points. Connecting Test (Breakout) Box
Test Box On Dashboard/Cable Harness Dashboard:
- Connect test box between instrument panel and cable harness connectors.
- Put gearshift in neutral.
- Raise up front of car to allow front wheels to rotate freely.
- Turn ignition on.
WARNING: Use axle stands if the front end of the car is raised with a car jack in order to drive with freely rotating wheels. Ensure that the handbrake is securely engaged. Before starting: Ensure that no personnel are by the front wheels when they are rotating.
- Connect a voltmeter across test box terminals # 7 (# A7) and # 15 (# A15), take voltmeter reading while turning wheel by hand.
- Voltmeter reading should fluctuate between 0.5 V and battery voltage.
If reading is correct:
- Intermittent short-circuit to battery supply in signal lead to instrument panel.
- Check signal lead between instrument panel terminal # A7 and engine management system connector terminal # B18 and following signal leads (depending on cars equipment) for intermittent short-circuit to battery supply.
- Cruise control - Check signal lead between instrument panel terminal # A7 and cruise control unit terminal # 8S.
- High speed warning buzzer - Check signal lead between instrument panel terminal # A7 and speed warning device terminal # 6.
- Checking Cables and Terminals
If voltmeter reading equals battery voltage:
- Short-circuit to battery supply in signal lead to instrument panel.
- Check signal lead between instrument panel terminal # A7 and engine management system connector terminal # B18 and the following signal leads (depending on cars equipment) for short-circuit to battery supply.
- Cruise control - Check signal lead between instrument panel terminal # A7 and cruise control unit terminal # 8S.
- High speed warning buzzer - Check signal lead between instrument panel terminal # A7 and speed warning device terminal # 6.
- Checking Cables and Terminals
